Proverbial Thursday – Proverbs and Sayings from Around the World

I fin profound wisdom in proverbs, sayings and quotes and I marvel at the way they are so succinct in communicating messages to the reader. Mostly anonymous, they come to us from past generations and from across cultures. They speak of the experiences of lives lived and lessons learned. Quotes, like proverbs, make us think more deeply about something.Proverbial sml 3932

Each Thursday, I post a Proverb or Saying and a Quote that I find thought-provoking.  I hope you will too.

Something Proverbial to Ponder About

About Forestwoodfolk

Scandinavian culture, literature and traditions are close to my heart, even though I am Australian. I have Scandinavian, Frisian and Prussian/Silesian ancestry and for that reason, I feel a connection with that part of the world. I am an avid Nordic Crime fiction reader, and enjoy photography, writing and a variety of cooking and crafts, and traditional decorative art forms. Politically aware and egalitarian by nature, I have a strong environmental bent.

I really like the Sicilian proverb, and thank you for sharing it. Only true friends will not hesitate to tell us when we’re wrong, when we’re being proud and when we need to be taken down a peg or too. True friends will be the ones who we yell at and probably take advantage of…yet they are still there to support us as they see good in us. In other words, true friends don’t judge.

The first proverb is very true and the second initially made me laugh. I think many people, from a variety of countries, would say the same of their own government. I suppose it depends on a person’s political point of view compared to that of said government. 🙂
