Xanthostemon chrysanthus are stunning native Australian flowers in bloom this month. We are lucky to have flowers and bursts of colour all year round – even in winter, but the heat is difficult in summertime.

  Yes, Linda. They often plant them in lines along the neighbourhood streets and when they are covered in blooms it is amazing

    This small tree/large shrub is cultivated as an ornamental plant by plant nurseries, for use in gardens and park landscaping in Queensland. Its horticultural appeal stems from its profuse and attractive flowering [according to Wiki]: Golden penda can be propagated by seed or cuttings. It grows well in subtropical gardens with fair drainage and sunny aspect.[4] The species is less reliable in flowering in climates such as Sydney and cooler.[Wiki] So perhaps it won’t grow too well in NZ. The name is actually Xanthostemon chrysanthus. Xanthorrhoea is the grass tree. I had got my xanth…. scientific names mixed up. I will amend the name mentioned in the post.
