Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge: Challenger’s Choice Brisbane Night on the Street

Mobile photography has really taken off into the stratosphere. Amateur photographers now rely on the phone camera to take all their photos, and  “fix” the more obvious photographic mistakes, making  a more professional -looking end product. The phone is portable and lightweight and always readily accessible.  Sadly, my expensive DSLR sits forlorn on the shelves – a victim of lack of portability and versatility, relegated such as it is, to occasional outings to scenic destinations. A bit like an old relative one visits every few months, more out of duty than desire. I do wonder where/how this will evolve in a decade or so.

Lens:

The image was taken with Galaxy S4 note – framed, tuned and sharpened in Picasa (desktop). I was in two minds whether the image should be warmed slightly, but decided I like the colder grey tones of the bridge and pavement.

  1. Nicely captured night photography–bright lights help give colors and details. My DSLR has not gotten as much attention lately. It’s been a few weeks since I last used it. Happy Photo Challenge.

    1. It is a shame we don’t use the DSLR, but the mobile photography has so many other advantages. And I still need to devote so much more time to effectively use my DSLR. Thanks for your comment, Sally.

  3. Nice nightscape! I like it as is. My DSLR also sits on the shelf. I keep thinking I must take it out and take it on a photo shoot…but just haven’t had the time of late.

  5. I really like the photo, Amanda. I was the same way with my cameras for a long time–using my phone exclusively and never even figuring out how to use my Nikon. What I’ve begun using it for it taking pictures with the telephoto that I wouldn’t be able to get with my phone, this one, for instance: https://sustainabilitea.wordpress.com/2015/06/12/weekly-photo-challenge-off-season-dessert-in-the-desert/. It IS a pain to carry around and I haven’t looked for anything to do so more effectively, but I’ve carried it a number places and been rewarded for the effort with some lovely shots. The combination of both phone camera and Nikon is tough to beat.
