Monday Mystery Photo – last time India

Each Monday, I post a mystery photo, or occasionally a mystery object. I do encourage you to leave a comment if you think you might know where this week’s mystery photograph is located, or what it is.   Where is the world is this?

If you guess the location of the above photograph correctly, I will credit you the following week* and post a link to your site/blog.

Last time,  SnowSomewhere had a great guess, however, Drake, TidiousTed,and Freda from Aromatic Essence correctly revealed the MMP was in India. It was, in fact, a door in the city palace in Jaipur, India, that forms part of a Maharaja’s palace. Dating back to the 18th Century, the palace was built for the Maharaja of Jaipur, and remains a royal residence even today.

In an inner courtyard, there are a series of four doorways or ‘gates.’ Each of the doors is decorated in a unique way and represents one of the four seasons and a Hindu god. The one featured last time on MMP,  was the Southwest Lotus Gate, dedicated to Shiva and Parvati, representing the summer season. A marvelous example of traditional art and architecture.

Monday Mystery

Monday Mystery Photo is something to ponder about*

    1. Hey Katherine A! Welcome and Thanks for playing along at MMP. I have noted your answer and will reveal the correct location on the next MMP post. I usually post weekly, unless circumstances prevent me from doing so.

    1. I am from Europe, was born and raised on the border between Austria and Italy. Yes, I have been in Switzerland numerous times, we smuggled coffee when I was a little girl (just don’t tell anybody).

    2. Fascinating! I noted that it said you were an American in Europe on your blog, however I can now see that you are very European!! Smuggling coffee, my goodness that sounds like a great blog post: fiction or non-fiction? Have you posted about it?

    3. It’s not a fictional tale. Switzerland has great coffee and chocolate. We weren’t allowed to bring to much over the border then, only 1 or two pounds, so hid around 10 pounds behind the doors. That was in the 70’s way before the European Union. The coffee was worth it. 🙂

    1. Answer noted, Ted. Now that you mention the Swiss work ethic, I noticed that they also like their siestas between 12 and 2 pm when everything closes down for two hours….
