I have followed Sally’s blog for some time and her regular weekly feature with changing themes gives photography buffs a good array of choice and inspires creativity. I am thrilled to have a chance to blog some of my favourite travel photographs in her Challenger’s choice week.
A perfect day on the river!

Joyously or not the photograph becomes the source of reality, but it can also become a dreamlike force for interpretation. So if photography is memory, then the image is the moment–a moment of sanctuary in a lifetime of them. [Source: Sally D]
Even when I am so old I can no longer travel, I will have my photos and memories to ponder about.

Yes, isn’t it beautiful that the pictures can trigger wonderful memories and experiences of travels past. That’s what we can get to keep!

Stunning photos Amanda!! Where was the last one from, it looks like geysers of some sort in the background behind you 🙂

Yes. Geysirs….so where might that be, Andy? Would you like to hazard a guess?

I was going to suggest it might be Iceland????

I didn’t think there was much recent volcanic activity in Norway, one of your other favourite haunts Amanda 🙂
I bet you had a fantastic time in Iceland, it’s almost a geological heaven for someone like me!

Have you been there Andy? It is such a fascinating place. I loved it but I was there in the midst of winter, so not too much digging for fossils then. Still, I was in my element. Godafass I think with the wind chill factor that day had to be the coldest place on earth – well that I have been anyways…. This was taken west of Akureyri in the north of the country near to a geo thermal plant I visited.

I’ve not been there myself Amanda, but I love volcanoes and their geology 🙂 BTW, just as well you didn’t go in the summer, you would still be there if you were looking for fossils! 🙂 The whole island only consists of volcanic rocks.
Geothermal plants are really interesting and a brilliant way of getting basically free energy, they tried to open one up in south Cornwall, using the granite as a means of heating water to generate energy, the biggest problem they had, was drilling the two holes and connecting them at the bottom.
I can quite imagine how cold it must have been, you get some really strong gales/storms in Iceland, that with the far colder weather than Scotland gets…………..brrrr!!!!! My bits are shrinking just thinking about it! Lol! 🙂

So did the plant in Cornwall get off the ground?

Aye, it did Amanda……..I think it’s still going today (it started in the late 80’s I think), but I think it just provides heating for local houses and businesses 🙂

Well that is great. Hopefully this could be a model for more plants like that.

Amanda, delighted to have your entry for this week’s challenge. Your first image has me returning to see the various layers of its graphic quality and colorful symmetry. Happy Photo Challenge.

It is a very pretty area of Norway, Sally and I had a lot of luck with the water that day. As I said in my comment to Raewyn, the photograph I took the day before of the same stretch of water wasn’t nearly as good due to the current flowing stronger. Not as good a reflection. Nature has to co-operate for a good photo.

That first image is amazing. The others are good too.

Thank you Raewyn. Coming fromas expert phtographer such as yourself that is a huge compliment for me. But then, it really came down to luck and nature playing its role well. The day before I had taken the same shot and it wasn’t half as good as the water was slightly rippled with the breeze and current!! Nature helps us with our photography at times, don’t you think?

What a perfect reflection. Amazing to see the colour shine on the water.

I was very lucky that day with the quality and stillness of the water. It was taken early morning on what turned out to be a beautiful summer day.

Amanda, that first one is wonderful, the water so very still for a marvelous reflection!
