Color Your World – Extending my Palette

Over at Jennifer’s blog she is all about colour.

A daily ‘Color Challenge’ is running until next month. Such a challenge can help with understanding colour, its attributes and nuances, and how it makes us feel. Everyone sees colour differently.

Having a good sense of colour can help us make good choices in home decorating, in how we dress, in art and in how we feel, as colours around us can often affect our moods. Just think how we feel when the skies are dark and grey, as opposed to a sunny morning with a blue sky.

There are various colour matching tools on the web, (links below), that can help you find the colour that most matches the one you want for your art/decoration/clothing/craft. You can even upload your own image and analyze the colours there.

Today’s colour is PLUM. A full-bodied colour, often spoken about as if it were a description of a much cherished wine! Here’s why:

      1. We can’t see the whole egg but assume the dark grey portion in the middle is a strip running through. The top and bottom appeals to us.

  2. Wow, lovely photos, Amanda! The first one is breathtaking. ❤ Is it from autumn? I can't really tell.. The color that uplifts my mood is definitely orange because it's just so vibrant, in nature I like blue and green, in clothes, house and everyday things I love white. 🙂 What about you, Amanda?

    1. Hi Pooja! Nice of you to stop by! Thanks for the lovely comment. The first photo is from Norway, near Stigen farm, on the famous Naeroyfjord, taken in August 2004. Have you been there? If not, you really should go! It is fantastic. 2004 was the year I began a love affair with Norway, my most traveled destination so far. I can understand that orange lifts your mood, as it certainly is an attention – grabber! I don’t have many orange clothes, maybe for that reason! LOL! I think it is wonderful as a decorating accent! I use it quite a bit in painting, or at least variations of orange-red. Blue and green, black and white are more my colours of clothing as well. They make me feel more relaxed.
      You sound very Scandinavian liking white as a decorating item! It is beautiful, clean and neat! I think my home needs more white! (I have a timber country style theme going on at home!) Warm cosy, colours and dark red.

      1. Hi Amanda. Wow, I didn’t know you had traveled to Norway that many times 🙂 No I haven’t been to Norway yet, but I am finally going there, well at least a part of Norway called Svalbard islands on the north via Oslo (about 2 days there..) this summer 🙂 The real beauty and heart of any country I think is in the countrysides – so I guess Oslo wouldn’t count as much and Svalbard is anyway a special territory of Norway..Oh I would so love to explore Scandinavia one day but those countries are too expensive, especially Norway and so vast! 😦
        Your home sounds so cozy and warm! I recently moved in to a new apartment and all the furniture plus walls are white – I am in love with this place! 🙂

      2. Well, I will look forward to reading your posts about your summer holiday to Norge, as I have never been to Svalbard, but would love to go, maybe one day. Are you going to jump in the icy waters? or do land excursions? Whichever you do, it will be fantastic. Don’t roam too far off road at Svalbard, though…. on account of the polar bear threat, I believe! My suggestions for great things to do in Oslo: Bygdøy museum, Vigeland, Akerhus, and Holmenkollen – Korktrekken ( a toboggan track), if it is open. And visit the Grand Cafe, and eats lots of Freia chocolate!!

      3. Don’t know yet, Amanda! 😀 Oh yes I read about the threat of polar bears.. We’ll probably do at least one organized tour, depending on what will interest us the most. Thanks for the suggestions on Oslo, Amanda! The weather should be lovely in August and I look forward to visiting the places you mentioned 🙂 Do you have Norwegian ancestry?

      5. Interesting! I work for a Swedish company and meet Swedes often at work. Last time I met a Swedish woman who said she has a Danish husband (but he was apparently born in Sweden).. We were talking if she understood Danish and things like that.. interesting stuff. She said she doesn’t really understand Danish but her husband’s family in Denmark always assumes she does and talks to her in Danish haha. Do you talk Danish yourself?
