Poetry Challenge and Entries for March

Fellow blogger and writer from New Zealand, Ineke from scrapydo2.wordpress.com and myself, Amanda from Something to Ponder About, are jointly hosting a poetry challenge in English and in Afrikaans, in the WordPress community.

The challenge is open to everyone, from complete beginners to advanced writers or aspiring poets. The challenge will run from March to October, 2018.  We will share tips, offer a monthly prompt and post link backs to your published Poetry posts.

Below are links and snippets of March’s wonderful Poetry entries. If I’ve missed anything, or anyone, please let me know. Pingbacks have been known to fail, so it is always helpful if you leave a comment on this post, to flag that you are joining in with the challenge.

  • Leave a comment on Amanda’s and Ineke’s blog letting us know you are participating.
  • Please link back to this post, so we can find your entry.
  • The topic can be one of your choosing, however if you want to try a fun prompt, the suggestion for April will be posted on Something to Ponder About,  tomorrow, Monday 2nd April, 2018.

     

    Remember, you do not have to use this prompt, at all. The prompt is only there if you feel you want a topic to work from, or you find it hard to come up with an initial idea.

    1. Thanks for alerting me Tanya. Sometimes pingbacks fail, and I don’t always get notifications. To create a pingback, and so that others can find the Challenge post, you copy and paste the challenge blog post url, from my blog, and add that to your post, then highlight it and click the ‘link’ icon in your toolbar, when editing.
      Yet I see that I had already viewed your blog and your excellent poem. Your poem contains some very salient words for the population today. Perhaps it was also my error? My sincere apologies. Many thanks for leaving a comment, it is best to leave a comment on my blog as well in case I slip up again!!! Thanks so much for participating. I will update the post with a link to your blog.

  4. Aaaah! What a lovely thing to do, showcase my verses like this, not used to it, looking good! 🙂 In April I’m doing the NaPoWriMo, of all things, which means that I will post one poem each day in the month. I’ll have a look at your prompt together and combine it with theirs and link to your challenge sooner or later. 🙂 Thank you so much for your kind gesture and for enjoying my poem.     1. I thought your poetry snippet was definitely the one to showcase, and I hope it leads to more bloggers discovering your talent!
      It is a huge effort to post a poem every day, but surely a very enjoyable one! No worries to combine my challenge with the NaPoWriMo, and thanks in advance for linking! Happy April to you and yours also!

  6. Here a poem which I posted on the April challenge. Anyone is free to link it to anything or nothing at all.

    the long night in turmoil
    restless, tossing and turning
    echos and voices from angels
    it was not to endure

    But joy is given back
    those stars twinkling, and
    chasing clouds overhead
    dawn is coming, always

    growing grasses are so free
    reflect on what is coming
    do not hold the past
    it was not to endure
