I find there to be profound wisdom in proverbs, sayings and quotes and I marvel at the way they are so succinct in communicating messages to the reader. Mostly anonymous, they come to us from past generations and from across cultures. They speak of the experiences of lives lived and lessons learned. Quotes, like proverbs, make us think more deeply about something.
Each Friday, I post a Proverb or Saying and a Quote that I find thought-provoking.

I have not heard this proverb, but I like it. I feel like it says to hold yourself to a higher standard than those who like to gossip, spread lies, etc. and I love the quote. Waiting until someday usually means you’re waiting out of fear, so be brave and follow those dreams.

I tend to agree with you about the proverb, that it’s probably talking about sincerity. I see the quote as saying that “someday” doesn’t exist; nothing gets done on a someday. Thanks for making us think!

Thank you Elizabeth for sharing your thoughts on Proverbial Friday! Sincerity is something that often shows through in a person’s smile, in their eyes, more so than in their body language! Our face is where we see the emotions! So in this way, the proverb might warn us about the potentially duplicitous emotions of one who appears to be full of prasie, submissive or even sycophantic.

The Polish proverb is very interesting and will require some thought. I agree, it can have something to do with deceit and betrayal. I’ve hear the other one. It reminds me of my old lament. “I was gonna”. Never getting around to it is because we haven’t put and action plan in place for something we say we are going to do. I have a lot of “I am gonna” that have not been accomplished. Sometimes it’s because my expectations of my ability are too lofty, other times it’s because I’ve become a bit lazy. ;( Loved the “Someday”

We have “gunna” jobs here – spelt slightly differently. OR would have/could have/should have – all indicative of possibilities never realized. That is what happens on Somedays! I do like how the quote questions one’s procrastination!To read it is enough to motivate me! This morning I cleaned out a cupboard that has needed tidying – before I even got dressed or ate breakfast! Still, for those who feel so crappy about their lives that they find little motivation, it might feel as though they are being scolded by a school teacher or their mother? Expectations are a bit too lofty – that is good to remember too. Keep the expectations realistic!!

Yes that is definitely another interpretation of the proverb that I hadn’t thought of… a
and many Poles are very devout! Are they insinuating that some are perhaps insincere in their faith?
