I find there to be profound wisdom in proverbs, sayings and quotes and I marvel at the way they are so succinct in communicating messages to the reader. Mostly anonymous, they come to us from past generations and from across cultures. They speak of the experiences of lives lived and lessons learned. Quotes, like proverbs, make us think more deeply about something.
Each Friday, I post a Proverb or Saying and a Quote that I find thought-provoking.
I hope you will too.
We deem those men remarkable who think as we do.
Great men are not always wise

What do you make of this week’s sayings? Do you agree?
How do we define a wise man?

A philosophic Aussie writes here at StPA, one who will readily admit to loving Scandinavia. I'm interested in global politics and what drives us to be who we are. Scratch the surface and you'll find a practical Environmentalist with an egalitarian bent, trying to unleash a little creativity via the written word.
Scandinavian culture, literature and traditions are close to my heart, even though I'm Australian. Travel and courteous discussions greatly broaden the mind, so I travel if I can and am always up for a vigorous, respectful discussion. I'm an avid reader, I enjoy photography and craft, particularly traditional art forms. I hope you'll find 'Something to Ponder About,' in my WordPress Community.

Now Rumi was wise indeed though he does not think like I do. He thinks beyond and helps us get there. I love pretty much everything he wrote. He wants us not to think about the moment, just be in the moment and feel it. I forget to do that so very often. The other just tells us what we already know. The current best example is the Orange Man who appears great but is not particularly wise in any capacity. So sad. Hope you have a wonderfilled weekend. Be in the moment. 🙂
I am a little embarrassed to say that this is the first time I have heard of Rumi, Marlene, but his words intrigued me and have started me on a little journey of discovery of his poetry and quotes. It is not an easy thing to escape a still body that is dwelling on its thoughts. Time becomes irrelevant, and passes whilst you might be locked in a maelstrom of thought piggybacking! Jumping from thought to thought, or worse still, worry to worry. Rumi’s quotes can help us break out of that endless cycle inside our heads, particularly when they are plastered publicly as there were in this piece of graffiti! I feel that the quote – which I wrote up last weekend, (this week I had scheduled the post), was entirely topical given the Trump – Putin summit!! It will be very interesting to see what history makes of it and its importance/lack thereof in decades to come. Indeed it is sad that opportunities are squandered. But this is our moment, right now, and we must as Rumi reminds us, to look past this, so that we do not miss the beauty and essence of THIS particular moment in our time! Thanks as always for an inspirational comment. I hope you have an awesome Sunday!!
