Weekly Prompt – PATHWAYS
Share your ‘Pathways’ photos on Friendly Friday.
The Photography Challenge
Friendly Friday Photo Challenge is alternately hosted at The Snow Melts Somewhere and Something to Ponder About, each Friday.
Similarly to the former WordPress Photo Challenge, we’ll post a prompt each Friday and invite you to create a Friendly Friday post using one or more photos of your choice, relating to the weekly prompt. Write as little, or as much, as you like in the post. That part is really up to you! Then leave your comment and link for your Friendly Friday post, in our comments section here. Find further instructions below. This is my first week hosting the challenge and I’m looking forward to seeing your own interpretation of this theme. Here is my version of the challenge logo.
Friendly Friday Logo
Snow and I have created individual logos that you may like to add to your Friendly Friday post, but this is entirely optional.
Pathways
In sourcing suitable photos for this prompt, I am reminded of an old adage that states, ” Life is a journey not a destination.” Pathways can be a metaphor for life. Let us walk along some of my ‘Pathways.’When we are young, it seems we skip along pathways so very quickly, enthusiastic about life and what it has in store for us. We are keen and readying ourselves for loads of new experiences.
In adolescence, life is frequently twisting and turning in on itself; spontaneity rules the day. A few don’t see their destination. Some choose to follow a path wherever it takes them; whilst others are more concerned with experiences, than the actual destination, itself.
It is only later that some discover the paths they took didn’t turn out to be thoroughfares, at all; they were in fact, dead ends, or they might have been forced to make ‘U’ turns, away from the darkness and back on the straight and narrow.
Time passes and as some approach middle age, they might mellow seeming to be much more decisive about the paths, they take, in life.
As in life, every pathway has beauty – if we are open to seeing it.
Instructions for joining the Friendly Friday Challenge
- Title the post Friendly Friday Photo Challenge – Pathways
- Tag the post Friendly Friday and add a ping or link back to my blog, (see below)
- Publish your post and copy the published URL hyperlink on that post.
- Leave a comment below, pasting the URL hyperlink! That way readers can visit you and see your photo/s.
How to Create a Ping back
To add a ping back to the host blog, simply copy the Blog Title/s, highlighted below, or the URL address for each Blog you want to link to, that is:
Something to Ponder About or The Snow Melts Somewhere or both, and paste this into your Friendly Friday post.
Alternatively, once you have highlighted the linked blog names above, you can also click the ‘chain (link)’ icon (next to the Bold and Italic icon), in your editor’s taskbar. Then paste that URL for the linked blogs, into the text box that pops up, and press enter to activate.
I should then get a notification, which means I will know that you made a Friendly Friday post! Others can then click the highlighted blog name, in your comment, to find the weekly Friendly Friday Photo Challenge and join in too!
N.B. Sometimes ping backs don’t work, so it is best to leave the link in a comment with the URL link for YOUR post, on our Friendly Friday blog post!
Let’s have some fun exploring the pathways! Amanda
What a beautiful post, Amanda!!! Both the photos and the words. I enjoyed reading your ponderings and I recognized myself in them 😊 A great first prompt! 🤗

Thank you so much, Jolene! The bamboo grove is in Japan. Have you ever visited Japan?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’ve only been to Tokyo and surrounds, the bamboos are lovely, so peaceful and serene.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Then Jolene, you must go back to explore some more of rural Japan! I recommend a day trip from Nagoya to the post towns such as Magome!! Are you planning a trip anytime soon?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yea we should, the countryside must be a different sight altogether… Unfortunately no immediate plans to go back to Japan, the 🌎 is a very tempting place!! 😂

One can always plan for a future trip. Tsumago, and Magome were my favourite places. I am reading a book about a walking trek through Japan, from top to bottom. He does come across some interesting places on his walk.

Peggy can you let me know if the format is okay on this post? I lost some date when I completed some of it in the classic editor.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I think the format is fine, although I’m not sure what aspect you might be concerned about. My problem is more about finding the time to choose a pic. A wild week ahead.

Some of the photos disappeared when I made a small correction in punctuation. I think switching between classic and the new editor caused some loss of data so I had to revert to an earlier revision. Have you tried the new block editor?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haven’t tried it yet and won’t for a couple of months. We’re travelling again soon and I don’t have time to mess around with a new approach. Maybe in May.

No, just overland truck travel. There aren’t really safari animals in West Africa.

No I guessed not. Perhaps I didn’t use the right term, Peggy, but I did envisage a kind of back of the truck travel similar to what you have posted on previously. Do you have to get special visas or take vaccines precautions for travel there?

Love!! The red leaves are always a favorite of mine!

They are so very pretty aren’t they? I have to travel overseas to see the traditional ones, although there is one native tree, here, called a flame tree that does have a beautiful display of brilliant fire engine red berries that are falling, at the moment. I will try to post about it soon.

Well you live in the North, so that I assume autumnal foliage and red leaves are nothing new. We have evergreen trees here that don’t change! That is the sub tropics.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Evergreens are a favorite of mine. In my local area, I really don’t get the red. We have to drive a ways to see them.

Then you also know the joy of seeing a crimson display. It certainly grabs one ‘s attention. Google Australian flame tree for my local version or see it here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brachychiton_acerifolius

I added a post about pathways in life… and I had trouble with my draft too! I just published it and its time stamp is 6h ago! So it’s already low on the feed. But it has too many links to re-do! Here it is: https://thesnowmeltssomewhere.wordpress.com/2019/01/18/10-years-paths/
🙂

That is strange! Is it the time clock somewhere with your gmt setting? Maybe wordpress support can help, Snow?
LikeLiked by 1 person
My time zone is fine, actually I’ve had a similar problem since day one: some drafts (mind you, not all!) will randomly take on some editing date when published (I usually edit them for a long time). The only way to fix this is to delete it and re-do everything (copy-paste works luckily). But with links, that will end up with error pages so I won’t do that this time 🙂
Anyway, I’ve seen some more responses in the Reader feed for your prompt! 🤗Yay!

It is the strangest thing! It has happened to me with a very old draft. It would be good to know why! Yes, the responses are coming in. Awesome!!! (Happy dance)

I think you must try many different pathways. You never know where they will lead you. If you will find answers. If it will lead to further mystery. You never know unless you try and take a little risk..

You guessed the location, correctly, Len! I arrived early in the morning to avoid the crowds. There were only a few of us there, and for about 15 seconds we had the trail to ourselves. A magical time. I can see that you have selected a wonderful topic in the Torii gates, for the pathways prompt. I am heading over to read more now. Thanks for joining in!
