Friendly Friday – Contrasts

Friendly Friday

Earlier this week, I wrote about the Contrasts that I found on a recent trip to Japan.
This week on Friendly Friday Photography Challenge, I am asking you to create a post on “contrasts.

A Contrast of colour

Contrasts might not simply be a contrasting subject as in the photo of Nidaros Cathedral above. You could choose to edit and post the same photo, with the second being an edited version with more or less contrast? I added more contrast to the photo on the right below, and I think it creates a slightly different feel. Moodier, darker I think.

Contrasts of Size or Attribute

You might also consider contrast of size or some other characteristic. It would be hard to find a larger contrast in terms of size differential, than the small Trolls, of Trollstigen, (rock piles), against the backdrop of the larger (mountain), trolls, and the Green Valley, far below.

The bare rocks against the valley below; the small Trolls against the large cairns.

Sometimes it is old versus new that provides the strongest contrasting photos.

Whatever the contrast, it is really up to you.

Join in and share your photos here on Friendly Friday. Instructions below.

Friendly Friday Photo Challenge is alternately hosted at The Snow Melts Somewhere and Something to Ponder About, each Friday.

Instructions on Joining Friendly Friday Photography Challenge

Just like the former WordPress Photo Challenge, we’ll post a prompt each Friday and invite you to create a ‘Friendly Friday,‘ post using one or more photos that relate to the weekly prompt. Everyone is welcome to participate. Beginning or Advanced.

Write as little, or as much, as you like to accompany the photo/s. That part is up to you!

Add a ‘Friendly Friday‘ tag and create a link (or ping) back, so that others can visit you.

Once you hit publish, come back to this post again and leave a comment making sure you include a link to your Friendly Friday post.  Find further instructions here.

Here’s how to create a pingback if you are not sure of how to do it.

There will be another Friendly Friday topic posted over at TheSnowMeltsSomewhere, next Friday. I will be hosting again, in 2 weeks time, here at Something to Ponder About.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with –

    1. Thank you, Yvette. I was very lucky that a member of the choir was walking through my shot that day. It was almost as if I had arranged it! Those trees are typically Australian Casuarinas. She-oaks are their more regular name. They have small spiky cones and their leaves are modified branchlets. Rather unusual. Have you heard of them before?

      1. 😊you have some awesome unusual nature and reminds of another reason I like the blogging experience –
My friends down under with fresh (over the top- ha) stuff to share

      2. that picture sounds really fun. And I took a photo of a globe (while down in Florida) and it was one of the photos that when I got home I saw the extra beauty and was like “I love it” – – and it ha sa nice shot of Australia – I will show you later – and I might even use it for a book cover someday

      1. Honolulu has quite a few old buildings in the downtown area. It was the contrast of those old buildings against modern skyscrapers that jumped out at me. Even though the old buildings are different, the new ones providing the backdrop look very similar.

    1. Thanks for the lovely comment. It was a lucky moment for me that day. I could not have asked for a better contrasting color for the subject. Your entry also has excellent contrast of color and added interest in the reflection at the background and flower in the foreground. Thanks for joining in. See you at Snow’s blog next week and here again the week after, for new prompts?

      1. That is the great thing about capturing that moment in time. We can re-visit it and escape the transience of the moment, thereby we are able to enjoy that beautiful moment/site for a bit longer. It looks like you enjoy travelling photography, Heart to Heart?

      2. Yes I enjoy travelling and photography is the only way one can capture and relive some great moments of our journey. And blogging is a great medium to share it with other like minded people. Though my photography skills are very basic I’m ok with it as I personally don’t like the idea of editing the pictures to such a level that the originality is lost… thank you for your time 😊

      3. No worries. Hmm. Whether to edit or not to edit. I think that if you want to create a different mood, then editing is okay – up to a point. However, there is more skill to getting it right first up. Cheers, Amanda

    1. You are such a great observer of your surroundings, Manja. Inquisitive, observant and scrutinizing. You would make a great detective. Unique selection of photos for us to check out this week. It gives us a little peek into your world.

      1. Thank you so much, Amanda! ❤ I wanted to be a detective growing up but there was not enough crime in Slovenia at that time for detectives to be of use. 😉 I should have become financial police!

      2. Haha! I guess it is a good pribkems to have. Not needing detectives due to low crime rates. I, myself, didn’t aspire to be a detective but I always read murder mysteries from a very young age. Still enjoy them.

  1. Pingback: The Town Hall
    1. Thanks for joining in. That little house is so very cute. Fantastic contrasts in size and colour. Is it really the town hall? Or are they using the sign from there?

    1. You may publish a post anytime to this theme, Sabine, as there is no deadline to the Friendly Friday prompts. Of course, if you wish to combine it at Snow’s blog next week, that is totally fine too.

    1. Thank you, Ann-Christine. It reminds us how life changes with time. I note that we often discuss buildings in our conversations. Did you ever consider architecture as a career?
