Ebb and Flow

Think of the cyclic changes in the tides, the comings and goings of life, recurrent patterns of decline and growth. An awakening, an ageing and a rebirth.

When I think of Ebb and flow, I think of the beach; the sandy shores gently eroding away in the warm tropical summers and returning and reconstructing in winter – a seamless transition.

I am reminded of how ebb complements flow – the yin and the yang; logic versus intuition – opposing forces that unite together. Up and down, positive and negative.

      1. Thanks Amanda. Off to a good start. My son’s tennis team just made it through to the finals next week, so we are all excite or that. Fingers crossed for next Friday! And yes, pretty cold down here, lucky to make double digits today ☔️🌧❄️

      1. Yes they do, except when it’s forbidden because of a risk of wildfires, like this year. Most Finns are at their lakeside cabins but we unfortunately don’t have one, stuck in the empty city. At least it’s sunny!! And I have nice flowers on my balcony so staying at home feels okay this year 😁 I look forward to seeing Manja’s prompt post too 🤗 Nice to have a little variation!

      2. Staying home is a relaxing way to spend it. The Lake side sounds rather busy if everyone is there. And wildfires in Scandinavia? Is it really dry at the moment?

      3. Well the wildfires would be much smaller than yours 🤣 but I’ve never heard of any, I guess the authorities are just being careful 😊 It hasn’t rained for a couple of weeks which is unusual!

      4. I can understand the authorities’ concerns. Given that there is so much forest in Finland, if a fire did take hold, in a very dry period, it might be very difficult to contain. And then I think of the whole towns with the wooden buildings that have burned down, in Norway. Not a nice prospect, if it can be easily avoided. Scandinavians are so fond of candles, I am somewhat surprised that there is not more fires, though.

      1. I spend a summer in Provincetown, Cape Cod, Massachusetts on the Atlantic. I spent a lot of time on the beach. I now live in Minnesota in the middle of USA, a couple of a thousand miles east or west to the beach. The only beaches here are off a lake. Nice to visit, but not the same as being on the ocean.

      2. I tried the address you gave me, but I couldn’t get it to work. I went to your site and looked for a search widget. Didn’t find it, but I did click on your other buttons and learn a bit more about you, like that you have fabric shop. Did you design them?

      3. Thank you for noticing my sidebar shop. It is a hobby of mine to design fabrics in traditional Norwegian and Scandinavian designs. I also have some with Schnauzer dogs on it, as I have Schnauzers as pets. And you have your books on your widget. It is wonderful that you have your books published. I am going to read posts about writing that you have listed on your sidebar. They look really interesting.
        There should be a search bar next to the menu bar on a smartphone – it is in darker blue so it might be harder to see in a light, but that will only search the posts on that blog. I will add a widget to the side bar – thanks for the indirect suggestion. That might make it easier.

    1. It is I think, pretty unique. A lot of students live in that part of town and the hill is very steep, so the lift is well used. It is rather novel but very difficult to master. Could it be useful in your area, Sandy?

      1. I can see how this would be very useful. Where I am now on the Pacific NW coast, people mostly drive or walk. Not so much biking. In Toronto where more people bike, there’re no hills to worry about, so I don’t think this will make it’s way to where I live. Still, it’s pretty cool. He He … I can imagine skateboarders (students?!) appreciating this too.

      2. So biking is popular in Toronto, hey? I think that cycling is not that popular here because we have so many hills! They would need a whole lot more lifts! Only one large hill in Trondheim in the city area. I don’t know if the lift woudl work with skateboards. It requires a lot of balance on one foot to use it although you never know… It was so frequently used by the locals when I was there. The tourists had a lot of trouble, though. Which must amuse the Trondheimites. Hehe!

    1. Thank you – that photo was taken on the Sunshine coast, Chris. There is always a pelican or two there. The water in your photos is a crystalline blue compared to the Pacific! Gorgeous!
