Friendly Friday – Balconies

When I was researching the topic for this week’s Friendly Friday Photo Challenge, I realized that all my relevant photos were located in Europe. Except for one! I hope that you can show me some more balconies, or patios, or verandahs from all over the world.

The oldest balconies I spotted were in Germany – in Berlin and Frankfurt and in Italy.

Juliet’s balcony was a popular tourist attraction in Verona.

I noticed the fashionable balconies, in Italy, have window boxes that are more often filled with greenery or Geraniums.

And I couldn’t possibly exclude balconies found in Scandinavia from this montage, seeing as that region is my first love.

Sweden has a very famous indoor balcony.

Do you know what special purpose it serves?

  1. Happy Friendly Friday! You’ve come up with a new theme, I have never seen it anywhere. 🙂 Well done! I’ll be posting for it in the next two days, today I must deal with this week’s Lens Artists challenge.

Lately I’ve been a bit… bummed. For the first time in my 4 years of blogging I find it a bit… useless. Will improve, the mood, I do hope.

    1. I think it is natural to have fluctuations in enthusiasm levels, Manja. It is not useless. You have a wonderful photo journal documenting your travels via pictures.
Don’t despair. Is it partly because winter is around the corner? Do you need new inspiration to post about?

      1. I’m not visiting other people’s blogs as much as I used to. Will pick it up again. Just feeling lazy. :/ When I do, I always get plenty of inspiration. But it’s not that I lack ideas, I’m just lazy in executing them.

    1. The same can be said for your collection – very enjoyable to read and see. I love the idea of putting up beach umbrellas on one’s balcony. How fun! Are you based in Europe or were the collection of balconies taken on holidays?

      1. After 25 years abroad? Yes, quite a lot (but our return is now also more than a decade ago). Nothing of this was planned, I could have happily lived out my life in a different spot of the planet. One definitely goes around with open eyes.

      2. I find it fascinating to learn of the different ways people adapt, or don’t adapt, to integrating back in their native communities. Everyone had a unique story.

    1. Welcome back, Helen. 1586! Australia has not even been discovered then. The mind boggles at what stories that balcony could tell if it has lips! How long did you stay there for?

      1. Hi Amanda. Thanks for commenting.
I stayed in Swarthmoor Hall for a weekend. It’s the third weekend course I’ve been on there. It’s an incredible place to stay. Much of the interior is as it was ( including furniture!), though happily the guest bedrooms have been modernised.

    1. I like that you found some really bright and colourful balconies, Ann-C to balance out the greenery! An avalanche of colour. Fantastic choices.

    1. Thank you, Tatiana. The Juliet Balcony is riddled with tourists, but Verona has many other sites that are definitely worth a look. I will go check out your blog now. Are you based in Mexico?

    1. It is a shame that the weather isn’t kind enough to allow you to still sit out on the balcony with a blanket and a cup of tea, JustBlueDutch! It is such a relaxing way to spend some time on the weekend. That was one of the things I was insistent on having in my new home, when it was built. A balcony!

      1. Over here we love lounging in Balconies, especially in Summer. It’s a perfect place to grill and hang out clothes to dry ! :-))
Normally nowadays, when its chilly, I stay in balcony which is adjacent to the garden is when I need to tend to my plants!
It’s my dream as well– a balcony, terrace or patio and everything!

  2. I’m finally done with my balconies and trying out the new WordPress gallery system. If I wish to have captions, and I do, there is no horizontal gallery any more. Still, I like it like this.

And I like your balcony theme since, as I said, I have never done a balcony compilation. As for yours, I like them all but the Crucial Balcony has the future. 🙂

    1. I am glad to be the first with the Balcony theme. You never know – do you think it is possible that one day we might share a drink on that crucial balcony together?

    1. No such thing as ‘never’, Bushboy. No deadlines here. Funny that you have chosen Spanish balconies. There seems to be a bit of a Spanish thread for this prompt. They are certainly something to see.

      1. I didn’t notice the Spanish ones when I looked at all the others posts. I just picked a date and hoped for balconies. Struck it right with Madrid 🙂 🙂
