What is Friendly Friday?

The Friendly Friday Photo Challenge is about community and interacting with other bloggers. It’s a weekly blogging challenge where participants have an opportunity to share photographs from their world in a post based on, or around, the weekly theme. Everyone is welcome to join in.

Friendly Friday is hosted by bloggers Amanda, from ‘StPA’ (Something to Ponder About) and Sandy at The Sandy Chronicles.

As I now live in a home by the sea and was posting about a recent Michelin star seafood meal, the theme for this week’s Friendly Friday is: –

‘Sea Creatures‘

‘Sea creatures‘ covers anything from coral or seafood, to fishing, street photography, artwork, or shells. Your imagination is your only limit.

Nothing beats a meal of sea urchin and walnut tofu! Yes, I did eat it all!



What kind of sea creatures can you find for Friendly Friday?

Finding decorative sea creatures is a bonus.

    1. Thanks Lorelle. You never cease to amaze me at how quick you are off the blocks! I like that the mural in Napier has a poignant message as well as inspirational. The image in my post is from my former local area – it is on the wall of a fish and chip shop, and for a minute, I thought – I didn’t think Lorelle had visited Brisbane! Have an awesome weekend! Have you got much planned to do?

      2. I think Miss Teen has seen it. I an not familiar with the story. I went to see The Burning just before it won the Oscar so my taste in movies is probs a bit less mainstream. What is Jojorabbit about?

      3. Oh ok.
        It’s about a young boy in the time of WW2 who has an imaginary friend who is Hitler and who’s mother is hiding a young Jewish girl in their home. I’ve heard good things about it.

      4. Oh you must tell me what you think of it, as I am a bit of a modern history buff so perhaps I would like it. An interesting plot.
        We have had a few social events on with some new friends in the estate. It is a lovely community here. Very friendly and many in the same stage of life as us.

    1. It certainly is a bit of an iconic structure from what I gather. A barista friend was ecently heading to Japan and when she saw my photo – wanted to go to see the crab! Not sure why it is so interesting??

  6. Ooo, the last one is astonishing! I really love this theme, as you can probably tell. Just one thing: how many photos should there be in this post? I wonder if one or two are not showing for me. I can see only four photos: the crab on the wall, the sea urchin, the white shell and the last painted fish. My post will come tomorrow or on Sunday.

    1. Hi Manja – there should be six photos. Top one of fish in the fish market close up; the crab, Japanese fish market; sea urchin, shell and fish mural. I just checked again and made the others a little smaller so wondered if you could see them now. How strange! I had the text beside the photo of the fish market and smaller crab photo so I will change that to see if that makes a difference. Can you check again please? Do you have amp loaded btw?

      1. I’m watching on my laptop via Chrome. It’s still the same: the first fish market photo and the one under the crab don’t display. I tried two different browsers and it’s always the same: only four photos are showing.

      2. Grr – that is annoying. Let me check the size of the photo in the media library and whether I have posted it from a url or uploaded it. Okay – the crabs ( x2photos) are uploaded as is the fish market but they are resized very small – but the top fish photos is posted via url to google photos. I also had some kind of issue with wordpress today – “a jetpack error” – nver had that before…. weird wordpress gremlins again it seems.

      4. Yes, it seems all normal there. Miss Teen at the end looking super cute, and the dining room as well. Here there is a little sign (like a traffic sign “no entry”) where the two photos should be.

      5. Okay – that means that they were too small. I shall rectify – although the fresh snapper at the fish market is still a mystery – I added a link to that one – it comes up first in the post.

      2. I am using google photos for the fish market photo, and there is no embed option on their site, just a create a link. I will check again from the wordpress end. It is so good to have you on board helping me with the more technical aspects of blogging. Thanks ever so much.

      3. No – it doesn’t appear google photos is supported but there are other options for photos that I might look into. Or load the photo to instagram and then embed from there.

      2. My mouth is watering at the mention of mussels. Although they do get stuck in my teeth at times. But New Zealand mussels are the one we have available and are delicious. The waters must not be cold enough to get them locally, here.

    1. I love visiting fish markets too! I am guessing that you like seafood and are not allergic, as your post details a lovely fish and chip dinner amongst other interesting photos.

    1. Oh my – This is something I struggle to get my head around. The fact that the interior of the US is so far from the coast – noone lives that far from the coast here due to the large sandy desert that occupies most of our continent. Do you have freshwater fish in the streams?

      1. There are freshwater fish in lakes, but fish from any river is, in my opinion, kind of iffy. Our seafood is flown in from the coasts, tastes good, but is pricey.

      4. Your concerns are quite valid. Even the fish in the ocean have a certain amount of micro-plastics in them, as we do ourselves now. And the mercury content I believe is also a concern. I am not sure if this is world wide or specific to certain regions. Still, I do enjoy it and know there are risks with many foods that we eat. Unless we are totally organic and grow our own.

    1. I have not see another white shell the same as that one. It seemed rather unusual, and probably why I took the photo. I will take a look at your fishy offering now. I had you in mind when I was pondering this week’s theme, thinking that you would most likely have a collection of sea creatures for this challenge.

      1. Well thanks for the thought. Ironically, just the day before your post, I had my closest ever encounter with a sea turtle and then saw it again being trailed by a huge barracuda, but none of the photos I took came out worth a darn!

      2. That is a shame the photos didn’t turn out. I have moments where the excitement of taking a photo is counterproductive and I mess it up. Fast action shots are always tricky too!
