Photography Tips for Macro Shots

According to a bright spot, who posts amazing photos, including an amazing in camera double exposure of a pink daisy:

Bright sun is often not the ideal conditions for getting colour and detail of flowers UNLESS you underexpose, to get a black background and make the colours ‘pop’.

    1. I would love to read a macro story, Sandy as I know flowers are not your favourite photographic subject. I was a bit stuck for prompt ideas actually, not being able to locate my ideas list!

      2. Wonderful take on the challenge, Sandy. I was out of ideas for this prompt, so it felt a bit cheeky running with this. I feel we also don’t get as many written posts as we do photographic entries so I am really glad you have contributed something different. I will take a look later today.

  17. I love both of the bee photos! I never thought to take some pictures of the bees that float around my yard. I get those big, fat, fuzzy bumblebees that look like they’re too big for their wings haha. I hate mowing my lawn because they like the flowers that keep popping up, so I leave a spot unmowed for them.

    1. Good on you, Ang! You are looking after the bees. I hope you do take some photos of those bumblebees. I have not really seen too much of them as they don’t exist here and they would make a perfect subject for the challenge.

    1. The yellow flowered plant is a native plant called a Kangaroo paw, Sarah. It is unlikely you would have seen it in the wild, unless you have been to SW Western Australia. It is cultivated for ornamental use.
      You have me intrigued as to what you may come up with.

      1. Yes definitely, I spend the majority of my time outside & Mum gets out as often as she is able. we love to talk out the new things we have seen. If we get 2 or 3 days rain we go a little nuttier than what we already are, lol.

      2. We just had a small shower last night after a dry spell in September, so I can understand the excitement. I love the duller, subdued light of a rainy day when there has been so many sunny days in a row.

  50. I am so envious when I see beautiful macros, like on your post right here. I have been practicing …. with my iPhone. And I realise what my challenge is: I can’t always see very well (transitioning eyesight – bleuch!) and when I do, my closeups always turn up more successful than not. I know, I know, very obvious, but it took me a while. 🤣
