I just love this fun idea of using up beautiful paper. It is practical and functional and you can appreciate the lovely paper far more often than before.

The next best thing to pretty fabric is pretty paper! Although I don’t scrapbook, I love to walk through that department at my favorite craft/sewing stores and couldn’t resist buying some when I saw it marked down.  Of course, then I had to come up with a project for it, so here it is!

Sometimes the paper is so pretty, I am reluctant to use it, but I had no such trouble with this project. Some are planned to be small gifts, others I will use myself and then I can appreciate the paper each time I use them.

The therapeutic and relaxing nature of craft is something we should ponder about whilst stuck in traffic jams, heading to work each week!  🙂

Start by buying some mini composition notebooks. (The department stores have them on sale at various times)

(1) Use a notebook to make a pattern on a piece of cardboard. Leave a little extra on both sides to fold over the front and back notebook covers, and mark where all the folds should go.

(2) Use the pattern to cut out the scrapbook paper and to draw the fold lines on the back.

      1. Yes, and there is nothing interesting about those black composition books until someone writes something cool in them. I used to buy spiral notebooks when they were 9 cents apiece. I’d give one to each student. We would write, keep notes, cut and paste and make basically a portfolio of their work out of them. A couple of them gave me theirs at the end of the year. I still have them hundreds of years later. How much more exciting they would have been had we put on a cover as well. If I could only go back! 🙂

      3. No, I retired five years ago. I am on several boards and write and blog. It all keeps me so busy I’d never have time to teach! 🙂 I do a lot with kids, though through Kiwanis and the local schools. 🙂

      4. It is funny that I often hear the same thing said by many people who have retired from full – time work. They don’t know how they had time to work once they started getting involved in the community. It is great that you keep active. What is Kiwanis?

      5. Kiwanis is an international service club that works to promote children and education. In our community we do activities at least twice a month, sponsor trips to leadership conferences for kids, special olympics, Children’s hospital, reading programs. Tons of things. It’s our social life and community service all rolled into one! 🙂

      7. Yes, we have both Lions and Rotary. In fact, I spoke at the Rotary Club yesterday for lunch. Each one has a slightly different emphasis of service. In our town they collaborate on projects pretty well. 🙂

      9. It is an international organization, so I’m sure there are some. Our huge meeting this year is in Paris, France if you want to join up and check out the international organization. 🙂

      13. Agreed! Bad news! It doesn’t get easier when you retire. You are pulled multiple directions and if you are used to being busy, you will be busier. 🙂

  4. Those books look so pretty Amanda! I love small pretty things that brighten everything around. I used to be terrible at arts and crafts when I was a child, I guess as an adult too as I can’t even wrap a gift properly but I enjoy seeing other people do it and make beautiful things. 🙂
