Goose/Duck? with a million dollar view:

Not as elegant is this Bush Turkey that is nesting around the Rainforest park at Maleny in South East Queensland. A native largeless flightless bird, the male tends a large moulded heap of composted leaf litter into which the females lay the eggs. To regulate the temperatur,e so that it is optimal for the eggs contained within the heap, these turkey remove or add leaf litter to the heap as necessary. Pretty cool that they can detect these temperature changes.
Lastly, here is my old pet Sulphur crested cockatoo. Now about 29 years old. Two years ago she went to live in Sydney, with another male cockatoo, who is much much younger than her. They has a large outdoor aviary and the run of the house!! Paradise for a pet bird bred who has lived, completely in captivity, its entire life. I do wonder what she ponders about these days.

Well yesterday we sat on the balcony at my in-laws and watched the banana birds at the feed trays. They were chased way by the rainbow lorikeets. Then the magpie came in for her bit of meat as she does every day. And the King parrot knew that the glass jar on the table held sunflower seeds just for it.
We all just enjoyed their antics. Particularly when the banana birds thought that chewing the bells on the outdoor decorations seemed liked a good idea. 😉

What a wonderful show they all put on for you. Those rainbow lorikeets are cheeky aren’t they? And they make such a cacophony when they congregate in groups. It would be great to see a short video of their performances. We don’t have King Parrots here, but they are magnificient birds.

That they did. The lorikeets can be big bullies at times as well. My in-laws feed birds twice a day and the noise they make is incredible.
As I sit here this morning, there are lorikeets in the grevillea about 20 feet from my window. I can hear some King Parrots calling to each other. The swallows are congregating on the tv aerial next door and there are numerous other birdss around the neighbourhood calling out. I love my birds 😉

Fantastic. Are you in an rural area close to bushland? Is that why your area is so rich in birdlife?

I live in town but we have farmland within a block or so. We are quite close (30kms or so) to Mt Tamborine, Mt Maroon and Mt Barney 🙂

Ah, not so far from me! Yet I have seen no King Parrots in suburban Brisbane.

I am in Beaudesert. We don’t see them all the time but they do drop in for a visit. My in-laws live closer to the mountains and their home is surrounded by gardens and trees they have planted themselves so the birds flock to there.

We got some hail in the first storm but the second one went around us. It often does that here. When we get storms here they are usually beauties. 🙂
We sometimes stand out on our driveway and watch the storms moving around.

Yes indeed the bird is now 31 years old. This was taken a while ago but couldn’t resist posting. The goose/duck is very recent.
