I find there to be profound wisdom in proverbs, sayings and quotes and I marvel at the way they are so succinct in communicating messages to the reader. Mostly anonymous, they come to us from past generations and from across cultures. They speak of the experiences of lives lived and lessons learned. Quotes, like proverbs, make us think more deeply about something.
Each Thursday, I post a Proverb or Saying and a quote that I find thought-provoking. I hope you will too.
“Hunger er den beste kokk”–Hunger is the best sauce –Norwegian Proverb
People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within.
Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
and a final anonymous quote, but a very poignant comment on society today:
Hate is easy. Love takes courage.
Something to ponder about today.
So beautiful , and very true. Thanks.

Aw, Coffee, you say the nicest things. I feel happy that I have added a little moment to the lives of other people somewhere in the world.

Sometimes we get so harried that we don’t carve out the time to really “see”. It is as if we won’t allow ourselves to reflect. I know, before I had children, and I was working my career, my world focus was climbing the corporate latter, the rat race one. When I became a mother every bit of me changed. My children gave me back my ‘eyes.’

They do, life becomes busier with children yet the pace is slower because the deadlines are more flexible, and fun is always allowed!! That is what is missing from the corporate world. Plus kids give you more rewards back, except in the case of money!!!

Love the second quote, Amanda. Very deep and profound. It got me thinking about being in a group versus being alone. When we’re in a group, we might shine because we have other shining lights to help us out – we’ve got someone to back us up. When our friends leave us and when we’re alone, it’s so easy to hide away and moan about being alone and hating on the world for leaving us alone…but it takes a lot of courage to pick up something and stick to it doing it alone, especially if it’s something we love. And that sort of ties in with the second quote 🙂

I am so glad these quotes make you think Mabel, and it is obvious that you are a very analytic thinker. Nothing wrong with that at all. I love your insightful comments. They often help me see a different perspective. ❤

It’s been a while since someone called me an analytical thinker. Good to hear that again, thank you. I usually see myself more creative in thinking…then again, the two go hand in hand 🙂 ❤

I think the one by Elisabeth Kübler- Ross is really beautiful. Although the other two are also meaningful, that one stands out for me.

At times, this holds true, Gerard, as long as it isn’t taken to extremes…..

We have the same in Sweden as in Norway: “Hunger är den bästa kocken.” I like the other ones too – and the last one is really spot on. Unfortunately.

Thanks for the swedish translation, Ann-Christine. The last saying has really hit “home”for me in our troubled times. It reminds us to be strong and not get stuck in negativity. Thanks for your comment.
